The player & the tradition

I'm Josh Q — a fingerstyle guitarist playing instrumental acoustic music in the Blue Ridge. No band, no vocals: just steel strings and twenty-three years of practice.

I play covers from the American Primitive tradition — the folksy, mountain-rooted instrumental style pioneered by players like John Fahey and Leo Kottke. Fingerpicking only, often in alternate tunings, with melodies that carry themselves.

It's music made for the mountains: unhurried and at home outdoors. Catch me busking around the region, or bring the sound to your event anywhere in Western North Carolina or Upstate South Carolina — background music that sets the mood without stealing the show.

For clips from recent sets, find me on YouTube and Instagram.
